The Deep Submergence Laboratory is seeking an Electronics Technician to become an integral part of the team responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of undersea robotic systems. This is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits.
Education and experience will determine level of hire.
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Jason ROV electrical systems. Responsibilities include maintenance and upgrades of vehicle systems, support of vehicle operations, development and tracking of documentation. The candidate must be capable of reading electrical schmatics, and work cooperatively in a team environment.
Experience with the following is desired: Analog and digital circuit design, RS-232/485 serial protocols, microcontroller and other programming languages, power electronics, Ethernet protocol, fiber optic data transmission, general oceanographic instrumentation and acoustic navigation, and board level troubleshooting.
Sea duties include operational and technical support of systems at sea world-wide. Yearly travel ranges 2-5 months, depending on scheduling, with individual trip lengths of 2-6 weeks.
Physical duties of this postion include (but are not limited to) lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying up to 50 lbs, visual requirements such as depth perception, ability to see peripherally, ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to hear others in a noisy environment, occasional walking/standing/reaching/stooping and kneeling. You may be exposed to excessive heat and humidity, grease and oils, odorous chemicals/specimens, severe weather conditions and prolonged work hours.
EDUCATION DESIRED:
College Degree or equivalent years of relevant experience.
