The Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department is searching for a Research Associate III to join their team. This is a regular full-time position and is eligible for benefits.
JOB SUMMARY: This job entails analysis of underwater acoustic data and supporting field data of other types (e.g. environmental condition data). This includes processing of data sets from basic raw digital form through to formal comparison with published or new theories. Also included is statistical analysis of findings, and numerical simulation of underwater environments and of sound propagation. Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting to analyze field data and to prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and presentations is required.
Experience is desired at presenting work at technical meetings and workshops, and at preparing and publishing reports and/or articles. Experience setting up and running computational acoustic models is also desirable.
EDUCATION DESIRED: A PhD with an emphasis on wave propagation, wave scattering, and applied mathematical methods.
Physical duties required for this position include but are not limited to ability to adjust vision to bring items into focus, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to hear clearly. This position entails mostly sedentary work with occasional standing and walking.
