The Director, Human Resources is an experienced HR generalist who partners with business leaders to ensure there is a proactive approach to addressing organizational needs.  The Director will apply knowledge of HR practices and business objectives to ensure that the approach to HR issues and the implementation of processes and programs support the strategic direction and goals of Bentall Kennedy.  This role reports to the Vice President, Human Resources.
 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 
  • Work in close partnership with the leaders in the business to provide proactive, business- focused support, guidance and service on all people-related issues
  • Oversee the full employee life cycle processes including recruitment and selection, onboarding and orientation, employee relations, performance management and terminations
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Lead and implement strategic projects that align with the goals, direction and vision of the business and improve the employee experience
  • Develop and apply knowledge of key business drivers and precedents in making decisions
  • Provide leaders with coaching in the areas of talent management, change management, employee engagement, organization development, compensation and employee relations
  • Contribute to the leadership of the HR team overall and guide and develop direct reports
  • Lead HR aspects of property acquisition and divestment activities
  • Ensure that the values and corporate culture are understood and act as guiding principles in decision making
  • Deliver presentations and facilitate sessions for various programs and topics
  • Negotiate and help interpret collective bargaining agreements
  • Support and implement employee engagement survey, work with leaders on results and on-going action plans
  • Embrace and proactively support Bentall Kennedy's culture of environmental responsibility and social responsibility
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
 
 

Qualifications:

 Experience – 15 years progressive experience in HR, including a minimum of 3 years supporting a business with dispersed locations along with at least 3 years of experience managing a team
 
Education – Degree in Business, Labour Relations or other relevant field, CHRP designation and/or Masters degree would be an asset.
 
 
Subject Matter Knowledge
  • Familiar with industry best practices including performance management, talent management, and employee relations
  • Familiar with leadership development and team development
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements including the Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Legislation
  • Experience with employee engagement, surveys and group communications
  • Experience applying change management practices to ensure successful adoption of new skills and behaviours

  • Excellent  verbal communication expertise including effective coaching, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong writing skills including the ability to synthesize information into clear, concise messages
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships with key business partners, and employees and conduct activities with a professional presence
  • Good business acumen and an ability to think critically and identify risks
  • Strategic business partner who considers present and  longer term implications of actions/decisions
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment, tact and discretion in handling information of confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Knowledgeable in how to reinforce organization culture and values
  • Successful in managing multiple projects and competing priorities, able to allocate time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to problem solve, apply judgment and make sound decisions
  • Good project management skills
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for quality of deliverables
  • Results-focused with a hands-on and practical approach
  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset
