The Ship Operations Department is searching for a Marine Engineer to join their team. This is a regular full-time position and is eligible for benefits.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Ship Operations, maintains engineering records and monitors the expenses within the Ship Operations Office. Assists with Port Engineer duties.
Major Duties
- Maintains computer-based shipboard maintenance and repair management system; schedules planned machinery overhauls and provides budget input data
- Maintains inventory of spare parts for each ship, ensures that orders are placed in a timely fashion
- Tracks expenses in the ship accounts and shore side support service account. Provides information to budget process
- Conducts financial analyses and projections as directed by the Director of Ship Operations
- Provides on-site shipyard supervision as scheduled by Director of Ship Operations
- Provides current and continuous updates to staff on a regulatory requirements influencing maritime operations
- Assists Port Engineer with preparation of shipyard specifications
- Manages the Ship Operations International Safety Management (ISM) program
- Coordinates the purchase and delivery of fuel for WHOI's global research vessels
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Ship Operations
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs. independently above the shoulder, shoulder to knee, knee to floor, carrying up to 10 lbs. independently to a distance of approximately 20 feet, visual abilities include depth perception, ability to see peripherally, ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus, ability to distinguish basic colors, this position is mostly sedentary, with occasional standing/walking, manual dexterity/mobility, use of hands for basic grasping/manipulation, use of hands for fine manipulation, occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. May be exposed to excessive cold, excessive heat/humidity, dust or other irritants, grease and oils, electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards, potential for prolonged working hours. Physical duties are subject to change.
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
Degree in Marine Engineering, preferably from a sea-going service academy. Three to five years sea-going experience as an Engineer, or in a shipyard, or an equivalent combination. Demonstrated success and experience in managing complex projects. Knowledge and demonstrated abilities with computer applications required.
Must be able to obtain TWIC card.
