Summary:

The Planner/Buyer III is responsible for the planning, purchasing and expediting, as required, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s), Excipients, and other production related material in support of the manufacturing process through to final quality release and approval of finished product.   Serve as a primary liaison between the company and direct material suppliers to address requirements, non-conformance, delivery and/or invoice issues.  Achieve KPI performance targets for purchase price variance, on time delivery, inventory and supplier quality.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Plans, purchases and expedites Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s), Excipients, and other production related material, including blanket deliveries and on/off site testing requirements.  Procure direct materials to ensure on-time delivery of goods consistent with production planning requirements.  Responsible for all purchasing/planning data in ERP system for designated commodities.
  • Primary liaison for day to day contact with Suppliers of designated materials.  Meets with key suppliers, and document performance in accordance with internal operating procedures.  Drives continuous improvement with suppliers utilizing systems and tools to monitor and report supplier performance and corrective action. 
  • Manage inventory levels to support company’s Inventory Plan and Contract Manufacturers requirements to ensure continued supply, minimize expiry risk, and support safety stock requirements.   Must be able to manage product expiry and re-test requirements. 
  • Prepares moderately complex reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from various sources. Able to analyze large amounts of data, extrapolate insights and present findings and recommendations to management.
  • Process Change Controls, Deviations and CAPAs as required.   Lead the development of purchasing specifications by analyzing technical data, product requirements and collaborating cross functionally with relevant SME’s.
  • Support Strategic Sourcing initiatives; assist in the Supplier evaluation, qualification and selection process based on capability, technology, service, cost and overall suitability.
  • Maintain current knowledge of, and ensure all work activities are conducted in compliance with the full range of related internal and external systems, technologies, regulatory requirements and related policies and procedures.  Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Actively promote safety rules and awareness.  Demonstrate good safety practices at all times including the appropriate use of protective equipment.  Report and takes initiative to correct safety & environmental hazards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain or operations and / or 6-9 years of related experience.
  • Previous experience managing chemicals or materials with expiration dates in FDA/GMP regulated Pharmaceutical or related industry required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to produce reports for analysis and coordinate/conduct meetings. 
  • Experience procuring using ERP/MRP in a manufacturing environment; experience with AS-400 platform preferred
  • Experience using project management techniques leading a multi-functional team.
  • Proven experience driving continuous process improvement and cost savings required.

  • ERP Implementation Experience a plus.
