IDA’s overseas Business Development teams play an important role in IDA’s operations and are responsible for driving new business opportunities from key global markets. This position will focus primarily on new name business development in the Japanese market. The successful candidate will be responsible for the targeting and delivery of Foreign Direct Investment from sectors including Financial Services, Advanced Engineering, and the Green Economy.  In addition, the position will manage a growing portfolio of existing clients.

This exciting and challenging role is an opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated executive to make a significant contribution to Ireland’s economic development, and to work closely with C-Level Executives in some of the world’s most important and progressive companies.

Reporting to IDA’s Director for Japan, this position will be based in the IDA office in Tokyo and will be offered on a contract basis for a period of three years.


Key Tasks:       
In line with the targets and objectives set out in IDA Strategy, the key tasks are as follows: 
  • Proactively identify and engage with target companies from Japan with the potential to invest in Ireland and win investments aligned with IDA strategy and targets.
  • Build strong relationships with senior executives within selected target companies and develop a strong pipeline of future investments from the market.
  • Deliver compelling presentations to influential C Level executives, business groups, and networks across the market to promote the advantages of Ireland as a location for Foreign Direct Investment.
  • Demonstrate solid sectorial and deep domain knowledge with the ability to clearly articulate Ireland’s value propositions.
  • Work with IDA Asia-Pac and global teams to develop appropriate and relevant marketing and value propositions for the Japanese marketplace.
  • Secure commitments by companies to site visit Ireland; help prepare appropriate itineraries and assist with the commercial assessment and post approval implementation.
  • Arrange marketing visits to the territory by IDA colleagues and senior Irish political visitors.
  • Represent IDA in the market and develop and maintain senior level business and industry networks.
  • Ensure that IDA's values of People, Professionalism, Passion for Performance and Public Service are upheld at all times, and that dignity, respect and equality are applied within and outside the organization.
  • Ensure that continuous learning and development is undertaken through informal and formal learning and participation in the Performance Management and Development Review Process.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in undertaking additional tasks as may be assigned. 

Essential Experience & Competencies Sought
 
  • Knowledge of Ireland and the international FDI marketplace.
  • Deep experience and successful track record in enterprise business development with corporate clients.
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to deliver complex presentations in both high-level executive and group settings.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a demonstrated understanding of strategic selling, and comfortable working in a highly target driven environment.
  • Ability to network effectively, build relationships and rapport with C level executives.
  • Good understanding and familiarity of Ireland, and of business practices, cultures in Asia.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, flexibly and independently on own initiative. 
  • 3rd level business/sectoral qualification, to a minimum of level 8 honors degree.
  • Fluency in, or excellent business language skills in Japanese and English

Additional Considerations
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services, Advanced Engineering, and the Green Economy sectors.
  • Flexibility to travel across the market as required.
  • Familiarity with social media/digital marketing is desirable.
