Director of Finance & Compliance

About Us:
The Manchester United Foundation (MUF) is a registered charity dedicated to leveraging the worldwide passion for Manchester United to create positive social change. We develop innovative programmes that empower young people and raise awareness of key social issues through education.

The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance & Compliance to oversee all financial and legal functions within the Foundation. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be pivotal in supporting the Foundation’s strategic goals, ensuring governance compliance, and managing a small team of finance and legal professionals. This role involves liaising with key statutory bodies including the Charities Commission, Gambling Commission, and HMRC, and maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity and legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Finance and Legal teams, delivering accurate management accounts, forecasts, and statutory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including charity governance, VAT, payroll, and licensing regulations.
  • Serve as the Data Protection Officer, ensuring GDPR compliance.
  • Review and approve all legal contracts, mitigating risk and ensuring alignment with delegated authorities.
  • Act as licensee for the Match-Day Lottery, managing adherence to the Gambling Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leaders and trustees to deliver financial and strategic insights.
Who We’re Looking For:
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant with significant management accounting and budgeting experience.
  • Strong legal contracting knowledge and compliance experience.
  • Excellent communicator, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Skilled in data analysis, financial modelling, and reporting, with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Experience in dynamic environments and the not-for-profit sector is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate financial, operational, and governance risks.
