2rn, an RTÉ subsidiary, distributes and transmits the programme services of RTÉ Radio and Television. We also provide transmission services to local and regional radio broadcasters and transmission site services/facilities to mobile telephone and broadband operators, private communications companies, and the emergency services.

2rn currently have an opportunity for a suitably qualified & experienced individual to work as part of the Projects Team. Reporting to the Head of Head of Frequency Planning & Projects the Assistant Project Engineer will support the existing projects team in the delivery of capital projects (equipment, facilities and network replacements and upgrades).
The responsibilities of the Assistant Project Engineer will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting with the effective management and delivery of assigned projects with a focus on schedule, budget, and quality outputs.
- Working with Project Managers in reviewing project specifications and preparing project plans and schedules.
- Reading and understanding documents related to and defining project scope & specifications, including drawings, surveys, schedules, budgets, and reports.
- Liaising effectively with the project team, regional staff, National Monitoring Centre (NMC) staff, contractors/third parties and all project stakeholders concerning project details and deliverables.
- Monitoring project related activities and reporting on the progress of projects; working closely with the team to ensure that program activities and project tasks are executed in line with project timelines - proactively identifying, communicating, escalating and, where practicable, resolving potential issues or delays with project deliverables.
- The administration and management of all project documents - preparing, processing, and updating accurate project related documentation and records including project meeting minutes, project status & tracking reports, processing purchase orders and maintaining budget & financial records etc
- As directed, taking full ownership and responsibility for specific projects.
Knowledge and Experience
Ideally applicants will have:
- Relevant third level qualification/s in engineering and/or project management, or directly relevant experience.
- Prior experience of managing projects - particularly in the telecoms/broadcast area, and ideally with some experience of construction projects.
- Technical knowledge of broadcast/RF and telecoms networks would be an advantage, as would experience of public procurement.
- Awareness/experience of managing Health and Safety in construction.
- Computer literate including MS Office – essential.
The Assistant Project Engineer will need to demonstrate initiative, excellent communication, interpersonal, and planning & organisational skills together with the ability to work effectively on their own and as a part of a team.
To be successful the Assistant Project Engineer will be performance and results orientated, embrace problem solving and decision making, and need to effectively manage their time and activities to deliver results within defined timelines.
A current full driving licence is essential, and the individual will need to be available for regular travel.
The appointment will be made at the grade of Assistant Broadcast Engineer 1 (€42,025 - €49,722). For a fully qualified engineer/project manager with an established track record of 5 years in a directly relevant field, the appointment may be made at the Broadcast Engineer, grade (Max €66,000)
