RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organisation. We are embarking upon an ambitious and exciting 5-year transformation strategy to update the way we run the organisation. Our mission is to serve as an independent source of stories, news, information, and entertainment for Ireland, reflecting the diversity of its people and providing experiences that enrich the lives of all.
This sense of purpose motivates us to deliver to the highest standards in an environment that is collaborative, supportive, and engaging. Attracting and retaining the best talent is key in delivering to our audiences. We want our people to thrive in an environment that values their output.
RTÉ Podcasts:
RTÉ has set up a podcasting department as part of our response to rapidly changing audience behaviour and media consumption. RTÉ Podcasts was created to engage with under 45 audiences who consume an increasing amount of media on non-linear platforms. We are creating habit-forming podcasts which place RT É at the centre of this audience’s digital audio consumption.
About the role:
With that in mind, we are building a team of versatile, editorially brave, instinctive content creators. We are now seeking to appoint a Multimedia Journalist, initially assigned to our new Daily Sports Podcast. If successful in applying for this role, you will:
Perform a central role in building the sports podcast, informing its identity as it grows
Initiate and create agenda-setting digital audio for the new RTÉ audio app and other podcast platforms
Create compelling video content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube
Potentially appear on the podcast and write articles for RTÉ’s online platforms.
Book guests and write briefs for the podcast
Interact with people working across RTÉ in the production and promotion of RTÉ podcasts
Work with digital platforms to increase the visibility and promotion of RTÉ’s podcasts.
The successful candidate will have:
An instinctive drive to connect with audiences and, in particular, an understanding of the younger audience that is currently underserved by RTÉ
An encyclopaedic knowledge of sport and its most compelling characters – in particular across GAA, soccer and rugby
An outstanding sense of how to tell a story, and an understanding of what makes a strong guest, topic or format idea
An ability to use images, video, audio and text to maximise the impact of RTÉ’s podcasts across a variety of platforms - in particular on social media
An understanding of podcast formats and trends in digital audio
A readiness to learn new technologies as they emerge or become relevant to the work of the podcasting department
An ability to work constructively and positively in a fast-moving production environment
Experience working in both video and audio will be an advantage, as will an understanding of how AI is shaping the media environment - including both the challenges it poses and the opportunities it presents.
