As a Security Chargehand, you’ll be joining our dedicated campus‑based team responsible for creating a safe, welcoming environment for everyone on site. We’re a supportive group who work closely together, responding to daily activity across the campus and partnering with colleagues, visitors, and external services when needed. About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Security and Reception, the main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the safety and security of staff, property and all visitors to RTÉ’s premises.
  • Assisting the Security Supervisor in the day to day running of the Security Department and deputise for the Security Supervisor as required. This involves all the duties associated with the function of RTÉ’s security control room such as access control systems, CCTV, Fire Detection and Alarm systems and dealing with security and safety demands both at our Donnybrook site and all our Regional RTÉ centres.
  • Being familiar with RTÉ’s fire safety procedures and report on fire safety issues in a timely fashion.
  • Attending to any security, safety, health and fire safety issues as requested by the Security Supervisor.
  • Undertaking First Responder duties including any training provided to maintain this certification.
  • Evaluating and making effective decisions in emergency situations.
  • Communicating through effective report writing as well as with other RTÉ colleagues at various management levels both verbally and by email.
  • Understanding the day-to-day operations of RTÉ.  Keeping up to date with any potential risks to the organisation and adopting a best practise approach to mitigating these risks.

About you:
  • Experience in the security industry and working as part of a security team.
  • Candidates must hold a current valid Security Services Employee Licence as issued by the Private Security Authority (PSA) together with a current full Class B driving licence.
  • Excellent interpersonal/people handling skills with the ability to supervise staff, events, audience control, and on-site public events in a calm but assertive, tactful, professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Experience of working on a large campus style site would be considered an advantage.
  • A high level of commitment, integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in daily interactions at work.

This appointment will be made on the Security Chargehand grade and salary scale from €33,283 to €39,900 gross per annum. As the position forms part of a 24/7 shift‑based team, applicable shift allowances will also be paid.

It is our intention to also form a Panel from this competition from which future vacancies may be filled.  This Panel will remain in place for two years.
