RTÉ’s New Direction strategy positions the organisation to champion culture in Ireland, captivate audiences with trusted and challenging content, and celebrate Ireland's rich diversity.

Meet the team:

RTÉ Audio’s portfolio reaches over 2 million listeners every week across RTÉ Radio 1, 2FM, Lyric fm, Raidió na Gaeltachta, and Digital Audio, making it the most listened to radio group in Ireland.

RTÉ Radio 1 is the most popular radio station nationwide, reaching 1.2 million listeners every week. Its wide range of award-winning programmes sets the standard for quality, variety and popular appeal in Irish radio with daily content including agenda-setting current affairs, arts, music, sports and entertainment programming.

About the Role:

RTÉ Radio 1 is seeking a dynamic, curious, and people-focused Multi-Media Journalist to work across a number of its daily flagship radio programmes, including Today with David McCullagh, Oliver Callan and Drivetime. This is a unique opportunity for a journalist who thrives on storytelling, excels in live and pre-recorded reporting, and has a genuine ability to reflect the full breadth of Irish life.

We’re looking for an energetic and versatile journalist with a strong editorial instinct and a passion for public service broadcasting who is comfortable with approaching members of the public and questioning policymakers. The successful candidate will be someone who can move from news and politics to humour and heart and share stories from the streets, towns, and communities across Ireland—capturing voices and perspectives that resonate with a national audience.

This role also spans multi-platform journalism, requiring the successful candidate to produce content not just for radio, but across digital, social, and visual platforms—bringing stories to audiences wherever they are.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce high-quality and agenda-setting reports for a range of current affairs programmes
  • Identify, research, and develop original story ideas across Irish society, culture, and everyday life
  • Conduct engaging interviews with contributors from all walks of life
  • Deliver compelling live and recorded pieces from across the country
  • Translate complex issues into accessible, audience-friendly storytelling
  • Create and adapt content for RTÉ’s digital platforms, including social media clips and short-form video
  • Capture and edit multimedia content in the field (audio, video, and mobile journalism)
  • Work collaboratively with producers, editors, and presenters under tight deadlines
  • Requirement to be flexible around working hours and travel and provide occasional research support to the production teams

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have proven experience in broadcast journalism (radio experience desirable)
  • Demonstrate strong multimedia skills, including digital storytelling, mobile journalism, and social media content creation
  • Show a deep understanding of Irish life and society.
  • Be confident working independently in the field, including recording and editing content on mobile devices
  • Possess excellent communication and interviewing skills
  • Operate with sound editorial judgement, creativity and an adaptable approach
  • Have a thorough knowledge of journalism guidelines, libel and compliance issues, a sharp attention to detail and an ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
  • Hold a record of reporting on stories of local or national interest

We are particularly interested in candidates with a reporting style that is immersive, people-driven, and observational—someone who can bring audiences into the moment and reflect the diversity of voices across Ireland.

This role will be based in Dublin but with nationwide reporting.

What We Offer:
The opportunity to work with some of Ireland’s leading audio production teams
• A platform to tell meaningful, impactful stories
• A collaborative and supportive working environment
• The chance to travel nationwide and engage with communities across Ireland

How to Apply:

If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit your cover letter and Curriculum Vitae outlining your skills, experience and suitability for the role and some examples of your work (audio, video, and/or digital links preferred) demonstrating your reporting style and storytelling suitability across platforms. Please attach these as one file in the online application process.
