Meet the team:

As Ireland’s national public service media organisation, RTÉ News and Current Affairs provides independent and trusted news and current affairs content across multiple platforms 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We are looking to replenish our Overnight Multi-Media Journalist Panel to fill future vacancies, including part-time opportunities, and temporary gaps in the rosters that arise occasionally due to leave and other absences. This panel will be in place for a period of two years. 


Reporting to the Editor, Digital and Radio News, the Overnight Multi-Media Journalists work on RTÉ News Radio and Digital desks.

About the role: 
  • Responsible for overnight output on the RTÉ News app and Radio 
  • Subbing and publishing Online stories to ensure the app is updated with latest news 
  • Radio subbing work includes crafting bulletins, building stories, writing scripts 
  • On-air role involves broadcasting bulletins through the night  
  • Preparing Online and Radio content for morning audiences 
  • Based on the current roster hours worked will be 11pm to 6am
  • This overnight role includes weekend and public holiday shifts 
  • Based in the Dublin newsroom

About you: 
  • Proven track record in journalism and possess a keen news sense 
  • Sound editorial judgement and understanding of the workings of the institutions of the State 
  • A thorough knowledge of journalism guidelines, as well as legal and copyright issues surrounding news reporting  
  • Excellent script writing and sub-editing skills 
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately to tight deadlines  
  • Record of reporting on stories of local or national interest  
  • Have enthusiasm, flair and energy as well as familiarity in the use and needs of all media platforms  
  • Digital skills and broadcast experience are desired but not essential 
  • An aptitude for technology 
  • Possess good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

The salary scale for Multi -Media Journalist is €47,574 to €74,811 gross per annum.
