Function: Corporate Banking

Purpose of the Role: The Director, Credit Underwriting & Portfolio Management, leads and motivates a Credit Underwriting & Portfolio Management team covering an assigned number of corporate banking countries (hub). The Director understands clients’ business operations and ensures that appropriate financial advice is provided to help clients achieve their goals. The incumbent is responsible for the efficient management of all credit activities, including underwriting, structuring, annual reviews, new business, collateral documentation and portfolio management. The incumbent is the key liaison with Credit Risk Management department (CRMD) on all credit matters and is responsible for the completion of all necessary due diligence activities, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction, a healthy credit portfolio quality and compliance with credit policy, procedures, guidelines and regulations of the Bank.
Key Accountabilities:- Leads & supports the completion of all portfolio management & credit underwriting activities, including as regards to annual and interim risk review processes, including monitoring and control, out of order collateral, delinquency, excess management, covenant monitoring, annual review and expiry management and reporting requirements to ensure a high-quality portfolio is maintained and all financial, operational and other required due diligence for corporate transactions are completed / adhered to.
- Leads & prepares large complex transactions, reviews and endorses the work of the credit underwriting & portfolio management team as part of the deal team in deals committee, CRMD and client and investor presentations, acting as the lead sponsor of critical client proposals through the approval process to ensure consistently high quality of credit submissions from the credit underwriting team for sponsorship through the approval and client engagement process.
- Leads & supports the timely delivery / completion of all relevant risk reviews and reporting including early warning questionnaires, proposing of EWL strategies, portfolio level reporting and when applicable regulatory reporting, etc. to ensure that the quality of the credit portfolio remains high and all compliance, governance requirements are adhered to, and risk are mitigated / deficiencies are managed through to resolution.
- Leads risk management and compliance requirements, including internal control and assurance frameworks, and adherence to the Bank’s AML and KYC standards with regards to acceptance of new and existing business to ensure that service level agreements, risk appetite statement metrics and regulatory requirements are met / adhered to and enable effective and timely decision making that protects the Bank, ensures profitability and adherence to regulations.
- Leads & supports the coordination and execution of all necessary due diligence activities for the preparation and review of all credit applications for new business, inclusive of obtaining various levels of deal sanctioning and credit approval and the structuring and execution of large complex transactions, in collaboration with the country teams and Investment Banking, as applicable to ensure all due diligence is completed and the continued growth of the Bank’s corporate loan book in alignment with the Bank’s risk management framework.
- Oversee the accurate presentation of information from the team, leading, preparing and / or reviewing and approving the work of the credit underwriting & portfolio management team on presentations, business plans and other marketing documents, analyst reports, including detailed, customised client proposals to ensure accurate, consistent messaging to stakeholders, including senior management, corporate boards of directors and government cabinet ministers.
- Provides subject matter expertise / guidance, input and critical review and support to the wider Corporate Banking team producing industry position and recommendation papers to be reviewed by senior management and executive level committees for clients to support the sharing of in-depth market & industry knowledge insights and building subject matter expertise within the credit underwriting team and facilitating / ensuring quality structuring and credit submissions.
- Manages the accurate and timely provision of analytical metrics and summary reports to provide insight into the local markets to support the Director, Corporate Banking on critical success factors on bids, e.g. structuring features, deal lost metrics, postmortem analyses, competitor actions, etc.
Knowledge / Experience:- Graduate status with a minimum of 9 years’ experience in the business / financial world and specifically in credit risk management and corporate banking
- Minimum of 8 years in a senior leadership role in corporate banking, supporting mid and large corporate / sovereign clients
- Experience in investment banking / capital markets would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated results in leading and overseeing credit teams in multiple locations
- Extensive team leadership attributes, mentoring and coaching experience
- A proven track record of excellence in a role of a similar nature
- Regular exposure to large corporate deals
- Excellent financial analysis
- Good understanding and awareness of the industry trends and macro-economic factors affecting customers and markets

- Advanced credit risk analysis skills with strong financial counselling ability
- Superior communication skills at all levels including verbal and written with a strong emphasis on the formal presentation capability

Required Qualifications:- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in finance, business or economics
- Chartered Financial Analyst designation, chartered accounting and / or equivalent professional finance or accounting qualifications and experience
