PUROSE OF THE ROLE

The Operations Support Officer performs “entry level” processing such as data entry of foreign and domestic payments, sundry postings, foreign and local cheque processing, record keeping, mail handling and statement preparation; ensuring accurate and efficient processing consistently within service level agreements. The Officer role is designed to be generic in nature and duties will vary depending on area of assignment of the incumbent, keeping in line with the “entry level” processing described above. As such, depending on the size of the unit, the transactional volumes, the incumbent may perform one or more of the set of “entry-level” duties. The incumbent is not expected to have experience or specialised knowledge but is expected to obtain training and follow documented procedures rigorously.

OTHER GENERAL ACCOUNTABLILITES
  • Records on log, amalgamate, sorts, lists and balance all cheques received from branches / units.
  • Ensures that totals for each currency balances to the logs and process server end of day totals.
  • Accurately process all incoming clearing received from local branches and wallet vendor, ensuring that all transactions are balanced and accurately encoded.
  • Accurately archives all images of incoming and outgoing clearing received.
  • Makes necessary corrections to Form 110s received by debiting or crediting the respective branches, ensuring full particulars are recorded on the debit or credit vouchers as appropriate.
  • Ensures machines are totalled and cleared of all cheques and documents at the end of the processing period.

KNOWLEGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Knowledge of Operations practices, processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Local Clearing Agreements.
  • General understanding of the core banking system and the equipment and applications related to job.
  • Ability to use equipment and any applicable computer based software related to the job.
  • Ability complete task involving large volumes of work while under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, thus some measure of being able to function under pressure
  • Good communicator.
  • Fast and accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Good decision-making, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Sound time and self-management skills.
  • Sound computer literacy skills especially in the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
