Purpose of the Role:
The Associate Director, Investment Banking drives, sponsors and manages the origination, structuring and execution efforts of strategic and complex deals for regional clients. The incumbent acts as the owner and leads coverage to a set of strategically important C&IB clients, including acting as their champion in the Bank and ensuring the Bank maximizes business opportunities and limits competitor infiltration. The incumbent is a subject matter expert for all complex transactions which require advanced support to successfully arrive at a win-win position for the Bank and the client.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Leads the origination and execution of investment banking deals, proactively engaging in business development and building relationships with key corporate and sovereign clients in the region to ensure sustainable revenue and profit contribution to the unit and the Bank via fee generation, NII contribution and loan assets.
  • Manages and cultivates strong relationships with client executives and other key decision makers in larger clients within the region in conjunction with senior coverage and Bank executives regionally ensuring satisfaction at levels essential to retain and expand the level of business for the Bank.
  • Drives growth in the region, identifying business development opportunities with new and existing clients and successfully cross-selling Bank products to increase Bank revenue generation and client profitability.
  • Cultivates and maintains in-depth market information on new financing structures, financial / securities legislation, regulatory programmes, economic trends, sovereign fiscal management, competitor actions and industry developments to provide subject matter expert consultancy in regional financial markets to investment banking clients.
  • Participate in the development and execution of the strategy and planning for investment banking, engaging with banking partners including CIBC to create opportunities and markets for the Bank and its strategic clients.
  • Mentors and develops the junior investment banking team (and the Corporate teams, selectively) on aspects of origination, client interaction, structuring, internal approvals and socialisation, diligence, documentation and execution of complex transactions to enable the Bank to be the recognized leading institution in the region capable of delivering specialized and award-winning products and services to the Bank’s clients.
  • Source, develops and executes diverse financial, legal and industry information, analysing and presenting solutions to support the sourcing, origination, structuring and execution of complex transactions / delivering unique client solutions.
  • Partners and liaises with stakeholders (CRMD, FDS, Corporate Banking, Treasury) while originating and / or executing strategic transactions and sponsoring / assisting other teams with their approvals process to support the growth of key C&IB client relationships and ensure that the Bank is represented as a leading local and regional Bank with capabilities to deliver on a full-suite of products and services.
Knowledge / Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the business / financial world and specifically in Investment Banking and / or Capital Markets and / or Large Corporate Banking, in an international, multi-country market.
  • A track record of excellence in corporate banking and capital markets deal execution over an extended period.
  • Exposure to large complex, multi-jurisdictional and syndicated deals.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a cross border / multi-jurisdiction team.
  • Strong knowledge of investment banking products including syndicated loans and bonds.
  • Strong understanding of financial structuring and applicability to various businesses/industries.
  • Advanced credit risk analysis with strong financial counselling ability.
  • Understanding of the industry trends and macro-economic factors affecting customers and markets.
  • Expertise in understanding and originating complex financial concepts.
  • In-depth understanding of the C&IB business, financing solutions, credit suite of products, and the set of products available across the Bank.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in business, finance and / or equivalent professional finance or accounting qualifications and experience.
