As a Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for leading the preparation of accurate and competitive mechanical tenders to support the successful delivery of projects. This role oversees the full estimating lifecycle, from initial enquiry through to submission and handover, ensuring commercial viability, identifying risks and supporting business growth through effective tendering and cost analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Management of estimating new mechanical projects from inception to submission
  • Review and assess tender enquiries to determine scope and requirements
  • Develop tender strategies in collaboration with senior management
  • Setting up estimates, tender packs and applicable trackers
  • Communicating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers and clients
  • Prepare labour, material and subcontract estimates for mechanical works
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best value and compliance
  • Preparing take-offs for mechanical systems including pipework, fabrication and plant from drawings and specifications
  • Analyse drawings, specifications and BIM models to ensure accurate and competitive estimates
  • Inputting take-offs and quotations into relevant estimate formats
  • Identify commercial and technical risks associated with tenders and propose mitigation strategies
  • Produce bills of quantities, schedules of work and contractor proposal documents to support bids
  • Conduct tender handovers to delivery teams to ensure full understanding of project scope and pricing
  • Conduct post-tender reviews and contribute to lessons learned processes
  • Develop strong inter-departmental relationships working closely with Contracts Managers, QSs and Design and Engineering teams

Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years estimating experience within mechanical or M&E contracting
  • Experience pricing data centres, industrial facilities or pharmaceutical projects
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, pipework fabrication and installation
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and BIM models
  • Self-motivated to ensure that project deadlines are achieved
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team to manage workload efficiently
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Excel
