The Commercial Director will work closely with all operational functions within the company structure, bridging the gap to ensure our strategy and execution are aligned with our overall company objectives. You will provide in‑depth knowledge of the business’s commercial activities and participate heavily in MTM board‑level decision‑making. 

You must be able to manage and motivate the Commercial team, demonstrating strong leadership to maximise their potential, support their development, and facilitate regular two‑way discussions and reviews across all functions. 

You will report to the Board of Directors on matters such as commercial strategy and will lead the commercial processes and requirements of the business.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Operations and Financial Directors to assess and optimise contract profitability, ensuring a sustainable portfolio of current and future projects 
  • Oversee submissions, drive competitive bidding and develop watertight agreements that optimise budget 
  • Work with international clients in delivering large‑scale projects, with strong operational experience 
  • Enhance client experience through engagement to ensure a seamless process.  
  • Lead Estimating and Commercial teams implementing best practices and cutting‑edge technologies to improve efficiency 
  • Dive deep into complex data to support informed decision‑making 
  • Conduct commercial reviews of potential new projects and advise on potential risks, lead market analysis efforts, monitor competitive activity and identify strategic business opportunities and challenges 
  • Ensure all commercial activities are carried out in compliance with contracts, procedures and external legislation governing business operations. 
  • Act as a primary point of contact for client escalations, steering committee interactions, and partner relationship management 
 
 Requirements
  • Chartered Surveyor qualification (MRICS/FRICS or equivalent) 
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role within a project‑driven construction environment 
  • Strong background in commercial strategy, contract negotiation, risk management and competitive bidding 
  • Demonstrable experience working with international clients and delivering major projects. 
  • A strong track record of analysing complex financial, contractual and operational data to guide strategic decisions 
  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing and developing high‑performing commercial and estimating teams 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence at board level 
  • Deep understanding of commercial frameworks, contract law and relevant industry regulations 
  • Proven ability to drive commercial excellence, improve profitability and enhance operational efficiency
