Role Requirements
Role Requirement 1
Planning & Facilitating the Play Area
To provide safe, creative and appropriate play opportunities for children across a range of age groups whose families are being temporarily accommodated in the Citywest Transit Hub;
To attend planning sessions with staff team to ensure a planned approach to allocation of resources, and liaison with parents/carers when required;
To consult with the children and involve them in the planning of activities
Working in partnership with parents (parents supervise their children at all times in the Centre). To maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate meeting the needs of each child;
To encourage parental involvement and support through welcoming parents to supervise and participate in children’s play;
To communicate clearly about any matters relating to the running of the play area including resources and equipment, health and safety, with the Team Leader;
To ensure the provision of a high quality, inclusive environment to meet the needs of all individual children of all ages and stages of development, including differing abilities, cultures, beliefs and backgrounds;
Role Requirement 2
Safeguarding, Health & Safety, & Risk Assessment
To be vigilant in relation to any child welfare or safeguarding issues in line with Pobal’s Safeguarding Policy and Department on site procedures;
To work in compliance with GDPR requirements and to ensure confidentially of all information received in relation to children and families;
To ensure that risk assessments are completed prior to commencing activities with children, particularly in regard to age and suitability of materials;
To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times in line with the on-site protocol;
Role Requirement 3
Teamwork & Networking
To work collaboratively with team members and other units within Better Start and Pobal;
To participate in activities which may fall outside of normal working hours as required, e.g. Training, Staff Meetings etc.
Support all staff and engage in a good staff team;
Actively participate and contribute as a team-member with colleagues in Better Start, Pobal and other agencies as required;
Work co-operatively with DCEDIY, HSE or Tusla professionals and others on site as required to support the children and families;
Role Requirement 4
Information & Administration
Complete and maintain records pertaining to the role;
Ensure all administration back-up and support on progress is kept updated by maintaining all relevant systems;
Provide periodic progress updates to the Team Leader;
Review, develop and maintain efficient and effective administrative and information systems;
Participate in and assist in the organisation of special events, visits and any other activities required;
Participate in external evaluation of the service;
Required Experience
Minimum of 1 years’ experience of working with children of varied ages in a paid and/or voluntary role.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of play in promoting children social and emotional development
Demonstrate experience of working with children with their family and parents.
Understanding and experience of social inclusion and
Strong organisational skills
Experience of inter-agency working with children and families
Proficient in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook coupled with programme databases, SharePoint portals
Desirable:
Knowledge of working in areas of social and economic disadvantage.
Knowledge of inclusive and/or trauma informed practice or play therapy
Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
Qualifications
Qualifications in social care, education, early childhood education, youth work or equivalent on the National Framework or equivalent experience in one or more of these disciplines.
