The International Development Division has an opening for a Research Assistant (I) reporting to a Research Associate on the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) Team in Washington, DC.  This position will support monitoring and evaluation of international projects in basic education, youth and workforce development, and health. We are searching for candidates to work in either the Washington, D.C. office or the Waltham, Massachusetts office, or remotely from the employee’s home office. 

Tasks may involve international travel.  Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills, as well as strong writing skills in English are required.  Additional language skills in French and/or Spanish are highly desirable. 



The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

Under management oversight, the Research Assistant (I) provides support to qualitative &/or quantitative investigation efforts, including:

• research & analysis

• drafting

• documenting & cataloguing

• maintaining records

• preparing preliminary recommendations

• disseminating information

• supporting development and proposal work


The Research Assistant (I)

• Leads assigned administrative tasks

• Facilitates project teamwork; seeks and utilizes feedback

• Assists with quality assurance

• Provides logistical support

• May be expected to travel



This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience

• Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field preferred, including training in statistics, and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies

• 2–4 years related research, education or administrative coordination, requiring experience with computer applications (including databases) and Internet research

• Language skills, particularly in French and/or Spanish, are highly desirable
