The Educare of California at Silicon Valley (ECSV) Local Evaluation Partnership Project has an opening for a part-time data collector position, reporting to the Research Associate (RA) in San Jose, CA.

EDC was awarded the contract to serve as the Local Evaluation Partner for the first Educare School in California, Educare of California at Silicon Valley (ECSV). The LEP is an integral member of the ECSV School team, serving both the National Implementation Study currently underway by Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Institute for Child Development at the University of North Carolina, as well as the administrators and educators of ECSV for program monitoring and continuous quality improvement. The proposed ECSV evaluation activities will support the Educare Implementation Study (EIS) by contributing high quality and complete local data about key domains of children’s development, collected through direct assessment, parent and teacher ratings, as well as information about quality in infant, toddler and preschool children’s classrooms.  The current contract is for one year with the possibility of yearly renewals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position is for someone to work on a part-time basis, roughly 4 or 5 days per week, mainly in the mornings, 3-4 hours per day from April through June, 2019 (subject to approved background check conducted by the Santa Clara County Office of Education) but with potential future work September through December, 2019. The ideal candidate has an opportunity for continuous work for 8 months per year, split into two sessions, “Fall” (September to December) and “Spring” (March to June) of each school year. The main function of this position is to support the LEP by being trained and certified to complete standardized assessments in one-on-one testing with children ages 2 through 5. The assessments measure young children’s language, cognitive and emergent literacy skills as required by the Educare National Implementation Study. In addition, work will include supporting the administration of parent and staff surveys.

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures as well as Santa Clara Office of Education policies and guidelines.

Under management guidance, the data collector provides support to qualitative &/or quantitative investigation efforts, including:

  • Administer in a standardized manner individual child assessments after receiving full training and, following each assessment, entering data into the FileMaker Data System
  • Documenting, cataloguing and maintaining records of all assessments
  • Attending  meetings & taking notes as needed
  • Conduct all data quality control procedures to ensure completeness and accuracy of all data, bringing issues to the attention of the RA and PI and working with staff to correct problems as needed
  • Assist RA in administering the Spring Parent Survey and the Kindergarten Exit Survey to all eligible parents and ensuring high response rates
  • Assist RA in ensuring all staff complete the web-based staff survey
  • Assist RA in ordering child assessment scoring sheets and maintaining proper inventory of these forms
  • Establish a professional working relationship with teachers, family support and program staff
  • Maintain confidential and secure data and follow all requirements of the confidentiality agreement, obtain certification in the online NIH Human Subjects Research training and pass the CA-required background checks
  • Enter all data for statistical analyses in a timely manner, conduct range and quality checks

The data collector:

• Facilitates project teamwork; engages collaboratively in feedback

• Leads specific administrative tasks

• Assists with quality assurance

• Provides logistical support

 

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Specific requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience in Early Childhood Education or a related field
  • Some experience administering norm-referenced assessment tests to young children preferred
  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field preferred
  • Spanish language fluency preferred but not required
  • 3–5 years related research or education, requiring experience with computer applications (including databases) and data entry
  • Successful applicant will require successful completion of criminal background, citizenship/naturalization and health checks by Santa Clara Office of Education before starting the job
