EirGrid Group is at the forefront of innovation in the energy industry, enabling the transition towards a low-carbon, technology-enabled smart future. The Group plays a critical role through the development and safe operation of the electricity transmission grid in Ireland and in Northern Ireland (through its ownership of SONI, the System Operator for Northern Ireland) and also operates the wholesale all-island Single Electricity Market (SEM) and the East West Interconnector, a high voltage link between Ireland and Great Britain.  EirGrid is currently, in partnership with RTE in France, developing the Celtic Interconnector, a high voltage link between Ireland and France.

The EirGrid Group also operates the all-island wholesale electricity market, the Single Electricity Market (SEM), a contractual joint venture between EirGrid and SONI, each of whom is the licensed Market Operator in Ireland and Northern Ireland respectively. The SEM is regulated by the SEM Committee whose membership comprises representatives of CRU, UR and independent members. The operation of the SEM is governed by a number of sets of codified arrangements (e.g. the Trading and Settlement Code).

The Solicitor will work closely with the business as part of a small professional in-house legal services team and will support the business in delivering the EirGrid Group Strategy, demonstrating the values and behaviours of the group.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a legal professional who enjoys working with the business in a high performing and fast-paced environment across a diverse range of legal matters. 

We will look to you to advise on a variety of matters affecting the EirGrid Group business including regulatory and commercial matters relating to interconnection and in relation to EirGrid new roles as TSO and TAO for the offshore grid assets. This offshore work will include advising on legislative and regulatory changes, drafting connection agreements and related documents for offshore wind connections, advising on the procurement of services relating to offshore wind and drafting and negotiating services agreements.

You will provide legal advice to the EirGrid Group business on a wide range of complex commercial, contractual, corporate, procurement and regulatory matters, to include drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, advising on procurement law requirements, advising on connection agreements including financial security requirements, advising on the regulatory framework within which the business operates and managing disputes.
You will use your professional judgement to instruct external legal advisors as required, and manage relationships with such advisors with a view to maximising value for money and minimising overall risk and cost to the EirGrid Group.

You will be a qualified lawyer with at least 2 years PQE, preferably within the energy or infrastructure sector or the broader regulatory sector. You will have a proven track record of proactively organising and managing high workload and ability to effectively deal with a wide range of complex legal matters across a variety of legal fields demonstrating experience in at least a number of the following areas: Procurement, Commercial Contracts, Regulation, Planning and Environmental, Infrastructure Projects,  Data Protection and FoI/AIE.

You be a Team player who can support and be collegiate with others in delivering company Strategy and objectives and you will have the ability to quickly master complex areas of law and technical industry parameters and EU regulatory requirements.

You will have knowledge of the Irish energy industry and be results driven, highly organised and efficient with an ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
