The Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) is part of the EirGrid Group, and operates the Single Electricity Market on the island of Ireland.

Role Description
EirGrid is looking for a Strategic Policy Lead to play a leading and pivotal role within its Group Regulation team. The successful role holder will have the opportunity to contribute to and influence the strategic direction of the company’s regulatory and policy engagement as we mobilise to deliver on our ambitious strategy.  Specifically the role holder will be expected to:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a strategic voice, strategic influencer and senior level advisor supporting the Head of Function, the Executive team and Chief Executive in relation to strategic regulatory policy issues.
  • Operate cross functionally, overseeing and leading significant pieces of work and the regulatory input to significant pieces of work of strategic importance to the company and its regulatory interactions.
  • Lead the company’s development of the regulatory framework for offshore grid development;
  • Act as regulatory representative and interface and lead the regulatory output from the Company’s Shaping Our Electricity Future initiative;
  • Act as regulatory representative in the development of the operational framework for further interconnection with Great Britain and continental Europe.
  • Shape the company’s regulatory revenue strategy and prepare the company for the regulatory revenue engagement as part of its price control from 2026-2030, including oversight and development of the strategy for same.
  • Oversee, provide thought leadership, and where necessary draft, input to company position papers and consultation responses.
  • Develop strong industry and regulatory networks both on the island of Ireland and further afield.
  • Lead, mentor and develop more junior team members

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Have 10+ years’ experience of operating in strategic roles
  • Have an ability to quickly grasp, synthesise and retain significant industry knowledge;
  • Be able to network effectively both internally and externally;
  • Have a strategic focus and ability to bring unique insights to bear;
  • Have very strong influencing skills and a track record of influencing effectively at senior level;
  • Have a knowledge of the electricity industry and of the mechanics of regulation and a regulated business
  • Have experience in managing, overseeing and delivering projects of scale
  • Have experience in leading and managing direct reports.
