Vhi Group Technology have a full time permanent vacancy for a Senior Platform Engineer (based in either Dublin or Kilkenny on a hybrid basis) to help build and maintain our evolving Cloud Platform.

This is a unique opportunity to become a leading member of a specialised team that will manage & support all change on the Cloud Platform.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be part of a technical team that will be responsible for building, automating, maintaining and managing high traffic, business critical applications that run on AWS & OCP. You will be a key influencer in maturing and evolving our overall operational & infrastructural operating model for Platform Engineering within Vhi.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes, and services. Ensures that incidents are handled according to agreed procedures.
  • Assess, analyse, develop, document, and implement changes based on requests for change. Ensures that operational processes are in place for effective change control. Identifies and prioritises appropriate measures, scales, and targets.
  • Provide technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Validates that security, usability and accessibility requirements have been met.
  • Configure tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Provide technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing.
  • Deal with problems and issues, manage resolutions, corrective actions, lessons learned, and the collection and dissemination of relevant information. Provide advice and guidance to support the adoption of assessment methods and tools.
  • Plan, organise, and conduct assessment activity and determine whether appropriate quality control has been applied. Assist in the development of new or improved practices and organisational processes or standards.
  • Design, code, verify, test, document, amend, and refactor complex programs/scripts and integration software services. Define and manage scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for initiatives of medium size and complexity.
  • Organise knowledge assets and oversees the life cycle of identifying, capturing, classifying, storing, and maintaining assets. Facilitate sharing, collaboration, and communication of knowledge.
  • Facilitate and support the execution of resourcing activities in collaboration with managers and teams. Support assigned co-workers in areas of uncertainty, such as, organisational contacts, communication channels, processes, job expectations and manager relations.

Key criteria

Experience
  • 5+ years of Agile team experience.
  • 5+ years software development experience covering the full development lifecycle working with business user and IT teams.

Education and knowledge
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • AWS & Kubernetes certifications desirable

Technical
  • Proven experience in handling and solving system outages.
  • Proven experience delivering high quality software/systems at scale to agreed milestones and/or service levels.
  • Deep understanding of AWS and automation concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure, networking, and services within AWS.
  • Good knowledge of modern frameworks associated technologies and development tools.
  • Experience working with large, scalable, secure and fault tolerant systems.
  • Experience in Deploying, Automating, Maintaining and Managing Non-Production & Production environments with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code.
  • Good working knowledge of CI/CD, GitOps, methodologies and tools.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes, with OpenShift experience desirable.
  • Experience working within an agile team.
  • Proven experience delivering high quality software/systems at scale to agreed milestones and/or service levels.
  • Experience in implementing monitoring & alerting solutions using automation and observation technologies, with Datadog experience desirable.
