Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Urgent Care (Swords)

Context / Background

“VHI H&W are looking to recruit a RANP (Emergency) to join the Urgent Care Centre in Swords, Co. Dublin. This is a permanent post (1 FTE), 40hrs week. Open to part-time arrangements (across 7 day roster)

VHI H&W (Urgent Care) RANP Role Profile and Job Description meets with NMBI Advanced Nurse Practitioner Requirements and Standards for Practice. The organisations governance arrangements support the scope of practice and meet the regulatory and legislative standards for prescribing medicinal products and referral of patients for radiological investigation.

Vhi Health & Wellbeing currently provides urgent care services in our four existing Swiftcare/360 Health Centres in Balally, Swords, Cork and Limerick seeing over 75,000 patients annually. In addition, we provide medical and live-well screening services to 30,000 Vhi customers and a consultant led hospital at home service seeing over 1,000 patients annually, and Occupational Health and Midwife Support services to Corporate clients.

Reporting Arrangements

The RANP is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing.
AND
Clinically accountable to the Urgent Care Clinical Lead with responsibility for Urgent Care.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

The RANP will play a central role in providing nurse-led care in minor injuries and illness, in an evidence-based environment focused on quality and safety of care delivery. The RANP practices to a higher level of capability across six domains of competence as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements (NMBI 2017). The RANP will adopt a professional leadership role within the clinical governance structures influencing both clinical and non-clinical processes that impact upon the experience and/or outcomes for patients within the RANP nursing service.

The six domains of competence are as follows:
  • Professional Values and Conduct
  • Clinical-Decision Making
  • Knowledge and Cognitive Competences
  • Communication and Interpersonal Competences
  • Management and Team Competences
  • Leadership and Professional Scholarship Competences
Each of the six domains specifies the standard which the RANP has a duty and responsibility to demonstrate and practise.

Legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines

The RANP practises according to:
  • The Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives (NMBI 2021);
  • Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Framework (NMBI 2015);
  • Values for Nurses and Midwives in Ireland – Care, Compassion and Commitment (Department of Health 2016);
  • Advanced Practice Nursing Standards and Requirements (NMBI 2017);
  • Local policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines
  • National Health Policies and Procedures

Qualifications, experience, skills, competencies and / or knowledge
Essential Requirements
  • Must hold registration with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Register.
  • Must be a registered nurse prescriber with NMBI.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an acute care setting within relevant area of practice.
  • Possess a postgraduate qualification in relevant area of practice
  • Have a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the advanced field of practice in the management of patient care.
  • Have demonstrated competence in managing a caseload of patients within area of clinical practice.
  • Possess an interest in Integrative Medicine.
  • Flexibility to work across a 7 day roster.
  • Demonstrates alignment with Vhi Group values.
  • Possesses the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
