Senior Estimator - UK South Construction Business Unit

Role 

We are recruiting for Senior Estimator to join our UK South Construction business unit. The Senior Estimator is responsible for ensuring that the estimated cost of a project is prepared correctly in an explicit and consistent manner which takes into account the methods of construction and all circumstances which may affect the execution of the work on a project. The role includes the development of Estimators and Assistant/Graduate Estimators.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Ensure tender documents, addendums, client correspondence etc., are logged on the server and relevant team members are issued with copies.
  • Produce sub-contractor enquiry schedule, obtaining suggestions / feedback from the tender team, procurement department preferred/ approved contractor schedules.
  • Issue sub-contract enquiries, including scope of works and attendance schedules (where applicable).
  • Issue materials enquiries
  • Establish competition
  • Arrange production of B/Q's where required or B/Q share.
  • Undertake spot checks on measures/bill descriptions.
  • Chase tender returns and update enquiry schedule
  • Raise tender queries
  • Develop and fill gaps in tender, compile clarifications and estimator notes for file copy.
  • Incorporate late changes / tender amendments
  • Assist in the collation of tender risk and opportunity assessment.
  • Assist in the production of a value engineering schedule
  • Analyse nett tender package returns and complete sub-contractor analysis schedule for adjudication.
  • Analyse and assess the individual package requirements for fixed price and contingency additions, all for review at the tender settlement
  • Produce documents for tender settlement and present clear nett costings identifying risk and opportunity.
  • Completion of the Tender Sum Analysis for review by PCD and issue at adjudication including cash flow and forecast etc.
  • Attend adjudication and make notes of and undertake resultant amendments, issue for final Regional review or Group review.
  • Complete client pricing documents including Form of Tender, Contract sum analysis, Prelims breakdown (if required), for incorporation into commercial submission section.
Management Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the training and development of Estimators and Assistant/Graduate Estimators
  • Assist in the undertaking of PDP’s with all direct reports and to drive through actions/activities identified in the individual’s development plan
  • Assisting in the development and management of the bid budgets to ensure they are kept within budget
  • Carrying out regular tender reviews
  • Reviewing the risk register on bids
  • Assist in the reviewing of inflation calculations
  • Developing the cash flow on bid
Experience & Skills 
  • Must have strong analytical and numeracy skills to accurately evaluate detailed specifications, cost and risk.
  • Must be detail orientated
  • Must have a detailed knowledge of the latest processes, materials, and costs. In addition, they should be familiar with Conquest/Causeway/Coins or similar estimating software.
  • Working as part of a team, they should be a good communicator and have good time-management skills and be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Qualifications and Training
  • Ideally professionally qualified RICS / MCIOB or similar
  • At least 5-15 years experience in construction
