The Data Science Unit has been created in Ipsos in direct response to the way the converging media and advertising market is moving. Their remit reflects the growing industry importance of Big Data, passive measurement technologies, complex modelling, data visualisation, data integration and calibration methodologies.

The role….
The Data Science Unit has been created in Ipsos in direct response to the way the converging media and advertising market is moving. Their remit reflects the growing industry importance of Big Data, passive measurement technologies, complex modelling, data visualisation, data integration and calibration methodologies.

Your primary role will be to take ownership and lead your designated team on all data science aspects, for current and future projects. You will also provide guidance and assistance to the more junior members of your team on a day-to-day basis. Working closely with the Project Manager in your area, the two of you will be responsible for the planning, resourcing and delivery of projects, keeping within the allocated time or spirit and within budget.

Your key responsibilities will include:

 
  • Taking ownership or enable effective design of solutions to problems old and new
  • Performing or enabling effective deployment of solutions and models into production
  • Working in cloud environment, with containerised pipelines (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Developing using Git and CI/CD processes
  • Building and maintaining a close working relationship with other internal teams: data engineering, DevOps, application engineering and product owners
  • Building a robust, no single-point-of-failure team to ensure successful project delivery
  • Working closely with relevant product managers on managing expectations, communications, understanding requirements, building/delegating developments, monitoring backlogs and deciding priorities, most likely on a weekly basis
  • Working in and supporting the growth of an Agile framework within your team and projects
  • Alongside your team Project Manager, liaising with external clients with regards to data science activities in your area

As a senior member of the team, you will also have input into the wider teams future, working closely with your line manager and other lead data scientists. This will include;
 
  • Building up the knowledge and experience in audience measurements space
  • Working closely with other teams in our area (other Data Science teams, Data Engineering and Data Ops teams)
  • Supporting internal clients and helping them better understand what we do
  • Helping champion and educate wider Ipsos on the capabilities that data science can bring
  • Creating an effective upskilling plan for juniors, to be executed by you or another senior
  • Keeping abreast of new industry developments – not just those coming from the UK
What do I need to bring with me?

It is essential that your personal attributes compliment your technical skills. To be successful in this role you will need the following skills and experience:
  • Solid track record in a similar data focussed role
  • Skilled in Python / R/ git/ Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Extensive working knowledge of ML and statistics
  • Proficient with cloud platforms, ideally GCP
  • Not a stranger to developing code in groups
  • Excellent problem-solving skills - you are able to break down problems in smaller chunks
  • Driven by a passion to solve problems 
  • Independent thinker self-starter
  • Constructive driver of change
  • Excellent communicator, able to convey technical solutions in non-technical terms
  • Able to lead, support and work hands on as part of a team
  • Ideally a degree in maths, stats, computer science, physics or equivalent experience
