Ipsos MORI’s Cohesion & Security Policy Team is a multi-disciplinary team of social policy researchers and evaluation specialists, working specifically in areas of inequalities, social cohesion, integration, crime and justice and immigration.

We work with public institutions to provide robust research and evidence on the effectiveness of public policies and programmes.
The team has grown over the last 5 years, initially with studies for UK Central Government and Agencies, and increasingly international institutions (such as the Fundamental Rights Agency).

Our current and recent studies have involved assessments of the impacts of a range of initiatives, including: Violence Reduction Units (VRUs); the Controlling Migration Fund (CMF); Refugee Resettlement Programmes and multiple serious organised crime; counter-extremism crime and anti-radicalisation programmes. 

The role:
As the Business Leader, you will lead the team in income generation and business development, leading on winning proposals and identifying opportunities and partners for further growth, while supporting the team and wider management of the business.
You will be responsible for the direction, design and delivery of a range of complex and high quality, high value projects – evaluation, quantitative and qualitative  - including among harder to reach and vulnerable audiences for senior clients in central government, the public and not-for-profit sector, international bodies, and in academia.
You will sit on our Public Affairs Management Committee, our most senior team of directors working in our practice.

What you will be doing:

This is an interesting and varied role including:
  • Team and business leadership within the largest social research and evaluation business in the UK;
  • Directing medium and large-scale studies, from design to findings and recommendations; 
  • Developing strategic client and partner relationships while ensuring projects are delivered to budget and timescale;
  • Developing business strategy for the team, meeting and monitoring financial targets as well as drawing up annual strategic plans;
  • Working closely with the deputy head and senior management in leading the team;
  • Drafting accessible and concise reporting outputs;
  • Presentation of results to clients and stakeholders;
  • Leading proposals, supported by a wider team;
  • Leading on thought leadership and business development in the team;
  • Sharing expertise and best practice within the business through training, internal seminars and working on cross-company teams;
  • Representing Ipsos MORI externally- speaking at conferences and seminars as well as in print and broadcast media; and
  • Line management of staff.
What do I need to bring with me?
  • Proven ability to lead and grow businesses within a commercial setting;
  • Extensive experience delivering evaluation or quantitative and qualitative research projects in a commercial environment for government;
  • Experience in high profile and sensitive social and public policy issues such as inequalities, social cohesion, counter-extremism, counter-terrorism, crime and justice and immigration;
  • Experience in quantitative approaches to evaluation problems;
  • Proven ability to direct projects to timescale and budgets;
  • Proven ability to lead on research and evaluation proposals;
  • Experience of social research and evaluation methods;
    • Proven experience of strategic leadership and enthusiasm for business and team development;
    • Strong analytical skills;
    • Experience of using evidence to inform decision making
