The role…
The role will be based in our Health and Social Care research team but with close links to the Policy and Evaluation Unit

  • Management of large scale (multi-annual) evaluation projects (or directing medium scale projects) over the full project cycle, managing teams of consultants and social researchers while reporting to the Project Director
  • Strong intellectual leadership of evaluation studies from evaluation design through to interpretation of findings and specification of recommendations 
  • Responsibility for developing day-to-day client relationships through the execution of evaluation of projects, while ensuring projects are delivered to budget and timescale
  • Close working with research teams in both the execution of evaluation studies and providing advisory inputs on non-evaluation projects where appropriate;
  • Drafting reporting outputs describing evaluation findings in a way that is accessible to non-specialists;
  • Presentation of results to clients and stakeholders;
  • Leadership of evaluation proposals as part of a wider team;
  • Line management of junior staff within the team, including management of utilisation and skills development. 
  • Development of a profile for specialist expertise in a specific policy or methodological area;
  • Involvement in the strategic and operational management of the team.

What do I need to bring with me?
  • Strong academic background in social sciences – ideally an MSc from leading institution
  • Significant experience of leading and delivering evaluation projects, ideally gained in a commercial environment;
  • Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative approaches to evaluation problems
  • Proven ability to manage evaluation projects to timescale and budgets with little supervision
  • Time management skills and ability to work across multiple projects, prioritising tasks efficiently
  • Knowledge of health care policy and practice in the UK
  • Enthusiasm for business development and leading the preparation of research proposals
  • Ideas, curiosity and drive to support a business to move into new areas;
  • A desire to support junior members of the team to fulfil their potential;
  • Experience of working with NHS data, and conducting quantitative and economic evaluations in the healthcare market
