The Accounting and Finance Department is currently searching for a Senior Accountant II to join their team. This position offers excellent growth potential with an opportunity for a future leadership role within the Finance & Accounting department.  This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits. 
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant II to assist in overseeing general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions. Responsibilities include, preparation of the monthly and annual audited financial statements, reconciling account balances, maintaining ownership of the general ledger and  overseeing month end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant II combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough technical knowledge of accounting principles to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks. The ideal candidate also has experience collaborating and/or assisting in managing a team of accounting staff.
  • Responsible for the development and review of complex financial and account reporting requirements, including preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and month-end and year-end close process. This includes cash flow analysis, fund balance reconciliation, financial statement roll forward and support.
  • Provides analyses of financial data supporting the financial planning and analysis team. . Produces error-free accounting reports and presents their results, analyzes financial information and summarizes financial status, spots errors and suggests ways to improve efficiency.
  • Responsible for the development, review and accounting reporting of the Institution's Endowment on a monthly basis, schedules include, market value, unit value and income distributions, unrealized gains or losses, income earned, expenses, purchases, sales and holding.  Verifies, allocates, posts and reconciles endowment transactions. Reconciles activity to that of the custodian. Maintains permanent records for all Endowments.
  • Plays an integral role in leading annual financial audit, including endowment and employee benefit plan accounting, financial statement presentation and disclosures. .. Participates in internal and external audits when needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining policies and procedures for area of specialty. Provides technical support and advice on existing and new accounting standards to finance and operations, reviews and recommends modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Develops and documents business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls, ensures compliance with GAAP principles, liaises with our assistant controller and controller to improve financial procedures.
  • Assists in managing staff accountants, participates in financial standards implementation and education. Assists in planning, assigning, and reviewing of accounting staff’s work.
  • Responsible for design and delivery of various specialized projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with five (5) years or more of audit/public accounting experience or seven (7) or more years of general accounting experience is required. Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desired.
  • Proven experience as an Accounting Supervisor is desired. One (1) or two (2) years of supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Desired Experience & Skills
    • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and process
    • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP)
    • Awareness of business trends
    • Familiarity with financial statement presentation and disclosures
    • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year end close process
    • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
    • Accuracy and attention to detail is required 
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to repetitive motion including operating a computer and general office equipment. This position is mostly sedentary by nature. Other occupational requirements include hearing, talking, working with others and working alone.  Physical duties are subject to change.
