The Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department is currently searching for a Program Engineer – Ocean Observatory Initiative to join their team. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits

JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Engineer – Ocean Observatory Initiative is accountable for the Ocean Observatory Initiative (OOI) system performance and quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform Quality Control Checks, ensuring the Safety and Reliability of the OOI Components.
  • Lead the Continuous Improvement of OOI Assembly and Production across the OOI Consortium.
  • Assure Quality of OOI Vendor Deliverables, through the development and execution of QA/QC procedures, OOI component metrics development, quality audits, and product performance evaluations.
  • Engage with OOI suppliers to establish and/or improve processes and performance. Collect, analyze, and report on OOI Instrument performance metrics, and meet regularly with Instrument Vendors to improve those metrics. Evaluate material and service alternatives, and make recommendations to the OOI Program Manager and OOI PMs to source best values.
  • Anticipate OOI component obsolescence, and identify and recommend alternative solutions that meet requirements. Key Operations voice in product and component transition discussions with Engineering, ensuring adequate input variables are accounted for in transition timelines.
  • Support the maintenance, operation and updating of the OOI Material Requirements Planning (MRP) System.
  • Interface with engineering, management, and procurement functions to build processes, drive optimization, garner supply chain efficiencies, and improve delivery performance.
  • Lead OOI-wide effort to improve reliability, and the overall improvement of OOI uptime metrics for platforms and components.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5-years demonstrated experience with Large, Complex Engineering Programs. Minimum of 5 years management experience in engineering environments, preferable managing minimum of five or more engineers. Experience as a technical/engineering lead on projects >$10M.
  • Minimum 5-years demonstrated experience in a manufacturing organization, including specific experience in demand/supply planning, production management, delivery execution, and supplier performance management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deal effectively with conflicting priorities and change.
  • Documented evidence of excellent problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and form and lead teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform deep data analysis and scenario evaluation.
  • Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing training or experience desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree (prefer MS or MBA) in Systems Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management, or equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated expertise with AutoCAD or similar, MRP and Excel.
  • Ocean Engineering experience highly desired.

This hire is contingent upon award. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, occasional standing/walking, this position is mostly sedentary by nature. Visual abilities to include near vision. Other occupational requirements include hearing, talking, working with others and traveling about 10% of the time. Physical duties are subject to change.
