The Geology & Geophysics Department is currently searching for a Postdoctoral Investigator to join their team. This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits


An 18 month postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Virginia Edgcomb in the Geology and Geophysics Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The project the postdoctoral investigator would be working on is aimed at quantifying rates of denitrification in estuarine sediments beneath oyster aquaculture sites that utilize different growing technologies, and examining the microbial populations and nitrogen cycing processes at work in these sediments. The successful candidate must be experienced in metatranscriptome analysis, and must have documented expertise in nitrogen-related biogeochemical processes and associated bacterial metabolic pathways. Start date is June 1, 2018.

Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, bending, stooping, occasional standing/walking, and use of hands for basic grasping /manipulation. This position is mostly sedentary by nature. Visual abilities to include depth perception. Other physical tasks include working in estuarine sediments.  Physical duties are subject to change.
