Scientific and Postdoctoral

JOB SUMMARY:

The Marine Chemistry & Geochemistry Department is currently searching for Postdoctoral Investigators to join their team. This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

We invite applications for one or more postdoctoral researcher positions in the area of environmental metabolomics and/or environmental analytical chemistry. The Kujawinski lab uses analytical chemistry to explore the intersection of microbial biology and chemistry within marine systems. Potential projects include: use of metabolomics to understand the physiology of model marine organisms, comparison of laboratory and field data to infer the contribution of model organisms to marine organic matter cycling, and others. The successful applicant will be trained in all aspects of environmental sample analysis, including sample processing, mass spectrometry, and data analysis. Review of applications will begin Feb 1, 2018

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • As deemed necessary by supervisor

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

A PhD in chemical oceanography, biogeochemistry, analytical chemistry or a related field is required.

Experience with mass spectrometry and downstream data analysis as well as knowledge of programming tools such as MATLAB, Python, and R would be advantageous. Candidates with interests in linking chemical and biological datasets are especially encouraged to apply.     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to use hands for basic grasping/manipulation. Visual abilities to include the ability to distinguish basic colors and depth perception. Must be able to work around and with others. Will be exposed to hazardous substances or specimens.  Physical duties are subject to change.
